I want to take a moment to thank you once again for your incredible support. When you fought for me, you were fighting for a better and freer America. Although I may not have won the election, we all gained by participating in the process and letting others know that clean government does matter. That people do matter. That we still believe in the American dream where a person of little means can rise up and make a difference. Although it might be difficult to see it right now, we did make a difference.
We never stooped to deception or trickery or lies in this race. We never attacked another’s character – we only challenged the truth. We held our heads high. Believe me that accounts for something. For where would our children be if no one was willing to draw the lines and take a stand for what is right; for justice, for honest government and to act in a dignified way and most all, to respect the voice of the people. We did that. We set an example for others to follow. That is what creates change.
|
Change may take more time than we would like, but it will come. You are someone who believes in humanity. You are someone who knows that it takes caring about our neighbor next door to improve the state of the world. We know that all those who came before us; that loosened their own shackles of poverty, of prejudice, of injustice, made it possible for someone like me to even run for office. We loosened those chains a little more, and maybe the next time someone like us will win. We can change the world, but first, we must be the change we wish to see in the world. I thank you for being that change.

My DD:Direct Democracy: The Fulfillment of the American Dream, Alaska Style
"I may get some hits for this diary, but it is heartfelt and sincere, and since it shares a heartfelt and sincere position with Jon Soltz of VoteVets.org, I feel good about it.
I want to urge my fellow progressives to pull all stops out for Diane Benson, running for Congress in Alaska. Of all the candidates I have ever met, she is quite possibly the best.
But precisely because she is from a working class, Native American background and has not been a part of the political game, she is the longshot, grassroots candidate. But from the point of view of the working class, our soldiers and veterans, she is one of the best candidates to come around in a very, very long time.
If Diane Benson is the next Representative from Alaska, America will have a great deal to be proud of."

This is a historic year. We have a chance to bring about true change and create a new direction for our state. To do this, we need to come together and create a better tomorrow for ourselves and our children. It is going to be hard work, but together we can see that change through.
Let’s strengthen American independence through renewable energy; let’s provide health care for all Americans; let’s improve our relations around the globe; and let's bring a swift and honorable end to the War in Iraq.
We need strong leadership dedicated to public service, brave enough to take a stand, and committed enough to justice for all. If you are ready to unite and elect Brave New Leadership for Alaska, stand together and say "Not This Time" to those that seek to continue the status quo that has held us from reaching our truest potential as a state and as a nation.
Thank you for your support.
Diane Benson
